Sign Up for Awards Potluck

Our Awards Potluck will be on Wednesday, May 25 after school (around 3:15). If the weather is nice, we’ll be out on the baseball field. Otherwise, we will be in the commons. We will eat and hang out until around 4:00, then do awards, which will probably take about 15 minutes.

The boys decided pizza and ice cream sounded like a good way to wrap up the season. I’ve created a sign-up sheet online, so please head over and sign up to bring something. If you have questions, contact me at khurt@tahomasd.us.

8 Gold Game Summary (Round 2)

The final game of the season was a tough one for the TMS Bears, who couldn’t overcome an early deficit and lost 8-5 to the 8th grade Gold team.

Tyler Brazelton started the game for the Bears and pitched well, striking out 9 batters in 4 innings of work. In relief, Zach Madson also struck out 6 in 2 innings, while Zach Damerow closed out the game. Neither pitcher gave up a hit.

Offensively, the Bears struggled early, but were able to scratch out a couple of runs when Michael Clausen knocked in Brazelton, and again when Brazelton’s RBI single brought in Madson. After leaving a couple of runners in scoring position, the Bears finally found a groove in the 7th, highlighted by Madson’s RBI single and Brazelton’s RBI double, scoring Sean Bowers, Sam Stevens, and Damerow respectively. Unfortunately, the rally was halted with runners on 2nd and 3rd when the Bears had to take an automatic out and the next two batters couldn’t quite finish the comeback.

The Bears finished the season 1-5, tied for 3rd place in league. Congratulations to the 8th grade Blue team, who completed a perfect 6-0 season to take the title.

NOTE: Players will turn in uniforms and vote on awards after school FRIDAY and will be done no later than 4:00.

8 Blue Game Summary (Round 2)

Another beautiful day at TMS Ballpark turned out to be a tough one for the Bears. A couple of errors in the first inning led to 5 runs for the 8th graders, who cruised to a 14-1 victory.

Your TMS Bears battled the whole game on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they didn’t give up an error after that first inning, playing solid defense behind pitchers Ian Turner and Michael Clausen.

Offensively, Clausen led the way with 2 hits, and Joe Stevens knocked in the only run for the Bears, scoring Turner on an infield single.

The Bears will play their final game of the 2011 season on Thursday, a home game against the 8th grade Gold team. Come out and support your Bears!

Week 6 Preview

We’re headed into what is scheduled to be the final week of the 2011 season. Of course, the weather doesn’t always cooperate with baseball schedules, so there’s still a chance we could play into next week. In the mean time, here’s the schedule for this week:

Monday: Practice, 3:00-5:00
Tuesday: Home game vs 8 Blue, 3:45 PM
Wednesday: Practice, 3:00-5:00
Thursday: Home game vs 8 Gold, 3:45 PM
Friday: Uniform Turn-In, Awards voting, Wiffle Ball, 3:00-4:00

Also, SAVE THE DATE – the Awards Potluck is tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday, May 25. More details to come soon.

7 Gold Game Summary (Round 2)

Another gorgeous day greeted the Bears as they got off the bus at Cedar River. Unfortunately, this one did not turn out quite as well as the last one. The Bears were in a battle early on, keeping the game close into the 5th inning before giving up 5 unearned runs and eventually losing 10-0 to the Gold team.

The Bears were lights-out on the hill, with Zach Madson pitching 5 strong innings, giving up only 3 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 8 Gold batters. Zach Damerow came on in relief and struck out 1 batter, as well. Defensively, the Bears continued to improve and made plays all over the field and saw some solid catching from both Sam Stevens and Sean Bowers. Ian Turner also made some nice plays in the field, including 6 putouts.

Unfortunately, the Bears were stifled by Cedar River’s pitching and were only able to scratch out 2 hits – one each from Madson and Damerow.

The Bears are now 1-3 on the season and play their final two games at home next week – Tuesday against 8th grade Blue, and Thursday against 8th grade Gold.

8 Gold Game Summary

On what can only be described as a beautiful day, the TMS Bears made another trip up to the Junior High, this time to take on the 8th grade Gold team. And unlike their last trip, the Bears were able to grind out a thrilling 12-11 victory over the 8th graders.

Behind solid pitching from Ian Turner and Michael Clausen, the Bears were able to hold the 8th graders to only 4 earned runs. Turner was good again, striking out 5 in just 2 2/3 innings while Clausen only allowed 1 run in his two innings of work. Zach Damerow was a wall behind the plate and Zach Madson played a solid second base.

Offensively, the Bears reached base on over half of their at bats. Turner helped out his own cause, going 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and 3 runs scored. Madson and Joe Stevens added to the hit parade, each with 2-hit games, and Clausen and Walker Garland knocked in 2 runs apiece in the victory.

The win puts the TMS baseball Bears in 3rd place with a big showdown at Cedar River on Thursday. Git ‘er done, Bears!

Week 5 Preview

8 Blue Game Summary

The Bears took on their older brothers Thursday at Tahoma Junior High, but lost to the 8th grade Blue team 11-1 in 6 innings. It was a valiant effort for the younger Bears, who scratched out 8 hits, but left 6 runners in scoring position.

Players of the game were Ian Turner – who had 3 hits, scored the team’s only run, and did a nice job on the mound – Walker Garland – who knocked in Turner for an RBI and played a solid third base – and Zach Madson – who pitched a pair of shutout innings and had 1 hit in 3 at bats.

The Bears play their next game at the Junior High on Tuesday, taking on the 8th grade Gold team. Come on up and support your TMS Baseball Bears!

UPDATE: We will practice today (Friday) from 3:00 to about 4:30. And don’t forget that the varsity baseball team plays at Kent Memorial Field tonight for the SPSL Championship.
